BROWNING SCHOOL SUMMER WORK LISTS 2024: Upper School

UPPER SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS: SUMMER READING AND MATH WORK

This summer, Upper School students can anticipate an enriching reading experience, featuring required readings selected by their History and English teachers, as well as a common read experience. The common read aims to bridge the gap between faculty and students, sparking meaningful discussions and creating a shared literary journey.

In the fall, discussions revolving around the common read will coincide with the book fair, providing an opportunity for students and faculty to come together and explore the themes of the selected books. The common read titles for this year include:

  • Grade 9: "Atomic Habits An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones” by James Clear

  • Grade 10: "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas

  • Grades 11-12: "Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" by Gabrielle Zevin

The required reads and common reads will be distributed to Upper School students. Additionally, all the titles are available on our 2024 Summer Reading Lists on SORA. Click here to access the books.

The Browning School Math Department mandates that all students complete a set of math problems over the summer. This practice is crucial for mitigating "summer rust," reinforcing comprehension and retention, and preparing students for a successful start to the upcoming school year in the fall. Specific instructions can be found below.

Students should look closely at grade level and elective requirements, and complete all assigned readings for their courses.
